Wholistic Peace Institute
Gary A. Spanovich and the late Senator Mark O. Hatfield co-founded the Wholistic Peace Institute (WPI) in 2000. The WPI seeks to “stop the killing” whether by war or risk of nuclear annihilation, physical or emotional abuse, or human rights violations by actively sharing the wisdom and experience of Nobel Peace Laureates who have demonstrated there are more noble ways to create peace. Since 2000, Mr. Spanovich and the WPI research and peacemaking efforts have included war and conflict issues on the Korean Peninsula with some successes, including continued work: with Kim Dae-jung Peace Center in updating The Sunshine Policy to discover new and creative solutions to end the Korean war; on establishing a Nobel Peace Laureate Center at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology in North Korea where he serves on the Board of Directors; and through an MOU with The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI), arm of the South Korean government, in various projects such as the exploration of undersea tunnels between China and Korea peninsula, Korea and Japan, and Russia and the United States.
