Our Mission

Peace through mutual prosperity.

The Shin Dae-yong Global Peace Institute deploys an economic and business-focused approach to forge peace through mutual prosperity.  The Atlanta-based Institute is named for Dr. Shin Dae Yong, a Korean business leader who has committed his life and wealth to peace, initially providing millions of meals to starving North Korean children year-round in an attempt to repair relations within his fractured homeland. As Dr. Shin often says, “I believe in the innate goodness of humanity, that humility is the foundation of peace, and that hunger is the chief factor of conflict.  Malnourished children do not develop properly, and only by first feeding North Korea’s starving children may they grow into rational adults such that this 60-year conflict can finally be resolved.”

Conflict Resolution

Dr. Shin, meeting at the Norwegian Nobel Committee with an Atlanta delegation seeking to advise on a possible peace secretariat move to Atlanta, discussed opportunities around the world which can bring about a lasting peace in conflicted areas.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (“North Korea”) has been at the forefront of geopolitics for decades, in part because of its continued adherence to Cold War Era politics. Most foreign policy experts agree a North Korea with nuclear capability is one of the greatest threats to national security and global peace.

There are more than 2 million Korean diaspora business leaders across the globe; Shin Dae Yong is a prominent leader among them. Dr. Shin, originally from Seoul, due to his accord with Kim Jong-Il, manages all magnesium deposits in North Korea, which contains 57 percent of the world’s known supply. For the last 15 years, organizations that Dr. Shin is involved in have provided more than 50 million meals to starving children in North Korea. He previously conceived a strategic plan for the development of the Tumen River Economic District, but it was blocked by the United Nations resolution holding aid to the North Korean government. As we move into a new Trump era of diplomacy, it is time to move beyond old-order sanctions of the United Nations. The capitalist world is now prepared to bring about a New Era of peaceful solutions.
