Our Impact

Building off decades of work throughout the world, Dr. Shin established the Shin Dae-yong Global Peace Institute. The Institute is encouraged by strides made in improving relations with North Korea in 2018, including a unified “Republic of Korea” team competing in the Winter Olympics and President Donald Trump’s meeting with North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un.

The Institute sees these as progressive steps toward the peaceful opening of North Korea to the global community.

Previous attempts to enter into negotiations with the North Korean government have focused wholly on deploying a political solution to achieve denuclearization. The Institute is proposing an innovative approach to establish economic incentives to forge a lasting peace between the two Koreas and welcome North Korea into the modern, capitalist world.

Our Institute hosted an Economic Peace Summit (EPS) in Rome, Italy in April, 2019. The EPS brought together over 35 business leaders, government officials, and diplomats representing the respective interests of the United States, North and South Korea, Japan, and other Asian nations to discuss possibilities of an economic peace formula in a private enclave. We believe economic development is the key to opening North Korea to the world and removing nuclear stockpiles.  This solution necessitates engaging business leaders in dialogue with government officials and diplomats.

The headquarters of the Shin Dae-yong Global Peace Institute (currently at the Millennium Gate Museum in Atlanta, GA, USA) is soon to be relocated to the 2-story pedestal of the Peace Pantheon inside Rodney Cook Sr. Park in Historic Vine City. This peace park has an important historical narrative which tells the unique story of Georgia’s founding and peaceful accomplishments over three centuries. The Life-Home of Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. faces this park.

Georgia and her capital Atlanta are unlike any other land in the world, a true mecca of Peace. If Georgia were a nation, she would be number 5 in Nobel Peace Laureates.
